The Real Tank: WWII History

The T-34 was arguably the most important tank of World War II. Its revolutionary sloped armor design provided exceptional ballistic protection while keeping a low profile, and its powerful diesel engine delivered speed and maneuverability no contemporary could match. When the 85mm gun variant - the T-34/85 - entered service, it gave Soviet crews the firepower to engage the feared Tiger and Panther at combat range.

Over 80,000 T-34s were manufactured during the war, making it the most produced tank of the conflict. That numerical advantage, combined with mechanical reliability and a design that could be built by untrained workers in relocated Siberian factories, proved decisive on the Eastern Front - from the turning point at Kursk to the final drive on Berlin.

The T-34's influence didn't end with the war. Its design philosophy shaped tank development worldwide for decades, and it remained in active service in dozens of countries long after 1945. It stands today as the definitive symbol of Soviet military engineering and wartime resilience.
